What are Kindroid and Nomi?

They're not catalogs of ready-made heroes like Character.AI. They're companion services: you build one or two chat partners from scratch, give them a personality and a backstory, and talk to them over the long haul. Both services are adults only.

  • Kindroid (by Beautifully Incorporated): text and voice messages, voice and video calls, video selfies, group chats, multi-level memory. Since September 2026, Rooms has been in beta: shared spaces where up to 10 people and 11 characters can meet. You can choose the model: Ember by default, and subscribers get Polaris with longer context. The service says chats, audio and selfies are encrypted.
  • Nomi (by Glimpse.ai, Maryland, USA): short-, medium- and long-term memory, selfies, voice messages with natural intonation, calls, group chats. If you enable it in the settings, it can message you first. With a subscription you get up to 10 custom characters and as many group chats.

Do they support Russian?

Officially, neither does. In the App Store both apps are English only. Details as of October 2026:

  • Kindroid: the website is translated into more than 40 languages and speech recognition understands 60, but the service itself recommends speaking English. Voice synthesis doesn't cover every language, so a character may answer with an accent or in text.
  • Nomi: no Russian interface, the voice is built for English, and you can hear an accent in other languages.
  • You can type in Russian in both, but nobody promises good replies: at times the character will sound like an intern translator.

What you can do for free

  • Kindroid: as of October 1, 2026, there's no free mode in the usual sense. There's a one-time preview: 50 messages with paid-tier memory (15 in some regions), 5 selfies, 5,000 audio credits and up to two characters. After that your account goes read-only, and you can continue with a three-day trial or a subscription.
  • Nomi: you can start without a card. As of March 2026, free users got 2 images a day (subscribers got 40). The service doesn't say how many free messages you get per day.

What it costs

Russian App Store prices as of October 6, 2026:

  • Kindroid: 1,490 rubles a month, 3,990 rubles for three months, 14,990 rubles a year. Prices aren't published on the website; you only see the amount at checkout.
  • Nomi: 1,490 rubles a month, 3,490 rubles for three months, 8,990 rubles a year. There's also a cheaper Launch plan at 899 rubles a month or 4,990 rubles a year; Nomi's pages don't say how it differs from the regular one. On the website you're charged in dollars: $15.99, $39.99 and $99.99.

Kindroid also sells add-ons for extended memory on top of the subscription: Ultra for 2,490 rubles and MAX for 5,990 rubles a month. With MAX, the full package comes to roughly 9,970 rubles a month. Selfies are sold separately (50 for 599 rubles, 100 for 999 rubles), as are audio credits (500,000 for 1,290 rubles) and character slots, from 299 rubles. Subscribers get a million characters of voice per month, but the new V3 and V4 voices burn through them 1.5 and 1.75 times faster, and a minute of calling costs 400 credits. Nomi sells credits in packs, from 40 for 449 rubles to 1,800 for 8,990 rubles.

How to pay from Russia

  • App Store: since April 1, 2026, paying from your mobile phone balance no longer works, so the only option is your Apple Account balance.
  • Google Play: payments for users in Russia have been suspended since spring 2022.
  • Kindroid's website takes foreign cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Amazon Pay and Cash App; Nomi's website takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.
  • Neither accepts Mir cards or SBP (Russia's fast payment system). That leaves a foreign card or a middleman.

Subscriptions on both services renew automatically, and refunds are almost nonexistent: Kindroid calls all sales final, Nomi calls payments non-refundable. If you pay through a middleman, set a reminder to cancel before the next charge.

Do they open without a VPN?

On October 6, 2026, we checked the sites on eight home and mobile networks in Russia. Nomi opened on all eight. Kindroid opened on five: Timeweb, Beeline and a provider in Tomsk timed out. That's a snapshot of one day, and tomorrow could look different.

Before you buy: a quick checklist

  1. Try the free mode and see how the character actually replies in Russian.
  2. Decide whether you need voice: in Russian it'll have an accent.
  3. Add up the total with add-ons, not just the base subscription.
  4. Make sure you have a way to pay, and set a reminder about auto-renewal.

Where Kindroid and Nomi are stronger

To be fair about where these services shine: deep customization of your own companion with a detailed backstory, real-time voice and video calls, Kindroid's rooms with real people, apps in both stores, model choice and very long memory with one or two characters on the pricey add-ons. If that's exactly what you need and you can pay in dollars, they're worth it.

If you want someone to talk to in Russian or English

my-idol.ru works differently: it's not a single companion but a catalog of characters who reply in English or Russian, whichever you choose: heroes from anime, movies and books plus original ones. They remember the conversation, can talk by voice, you can bring them into a group chat, and you can build your own in the character builder. Language support here isn't an add-on: the characters reply in natural, idiomatic English or Russian. A comparison with other services is in Character AI alternatives, and for voice chat, see talk to AI by voice.
