What happens when you message a bot
You send “hi”, and the message goes to Telegram's servers, then on to the bot owner's server. There a language model picks it up, writes a reply as the heroine, and the reply travels back to you the same way. Telegram is the mail carrier here; everything else is done by someone else's program.
- Your chats are stored wherever the developer decided: in their database, on their server.
- A bot can't message you first until you've started it yourself. After that, it's up to the owner's settings.
- If the developer's server goes down, the girlfriend goes silent, even though Telegram itself works fine.
Five things Telegram doesn't decide
- MemoryWhether the heroine remembers what you told her a week ago depends on how the developer stores history. Some bots remember a dozen messages, others remember months.
- Photos and voiceSome bots do selfies and voice messages, but whether they have them and what they cost is the owner's call. On top of that, media in Telegram from Russia loads only half the time in 2026.
- PaymentDigital goods inside Telegram are sold for Stars, as app store rules require. Buying Stars from Russia keeps getting harder, so many bots also take payment on their own website.
- PrivacyA chat with a bot isn't end-to-end encrypted. The owner gets everything you write, exactly as you wrote it. More in privacy of AI chats.
- The neighborsYour chat with an AI girlfriend sits in the same chat list, between your mom and your work group. Some find that convenient, some don't, especially if other people sometimes pick up their phone.
The big question of 2026: does Telegram even open?
In 2025, Telegram calls stopped working from Russia, and from February 2026 the restrictions hit the messenger itself. As of October 2026, for many people Telegram only opens through a VPN, and so does any bot. If your internet provider or mobile carrier throttles the messenger, an AI girlfriend inside it will lag or drop out mid-conversation.
A simple test: try opening the bot without a VPN on mobile data and on your home Wi-Fi. If it won't load on either one, keep a backup on a website.
Telegram bot or website
- Getting started. Bot: one “Start” button. Website: sign up with email or an account you already use.
- Notifications. A bot messages you in Telegram like a regular contact. A website uses the browser or email, if you allowed it.
- Payment. In a bot: Stars or a redirect to a website. On a website: rubles directly.
- Where the chat lives. Bot: in your general Telegram list. Website: separately, in its own account.
- What it depends on. Bot: Telegram and the owner's server. Website: only the owner's server.
The takeaway is simple: if Telegram works for you without hiccups and you like having everything in one place, a bot is more convenient. If the messenger acts up, a website cuts out the extra link in the chain.
Five questions to ask before paying a bot
- Does the bot have a website with the same chat history? If Telegram drops out, you won't lose your history.
- How much does it cost in rubles, not in Stars or coins?
- Who's the owner, and who do you contact if you were charged but didn't get access?
- How do you turn off auto-renewal and get a refund?
- What are you willing to tell a stranger? That's exactly who will read your chats if they want to.

How it works on my-idol.ru
my-idol.ru is a website: it opens in your phone or computer browser, with no install and no VPN. There's one chat across all devices: start on the subway, continue at home on your laptop. The characters reply in English or Russian, whichever you choose, and remember what you've told them. There are heroines from anime, games and TV shows, voice messages, and group chats where you can bring several characters into one scene. You can delete your account and chats yourself in the settings.
