Four different kinds of "no sign-up"

It's the same phrase in the search bar, but it hides very different things. Before you celebrate, it helps to know which one you're looking at.

  1. A form with a passwordThe classic: email, password, confirm password, name, date of birth, a confirmation link in your inbox. This is exactly the registration people run from.
  2. One- or two-click sign-inThrough Google, Telegram or a code sent to your email. No password to invent, no form to fill out. Technically an account gets created, but it feels like twenty seconds.
  3. Guest modeYou chat without logging in at all. Sounds perfect, but usually the history only lives until you close the tab, and the character forgets you next time.
  4. "No sign-up" on the bannerThe ad promises free entry, but after a couple of messages the app asks for an account and your card details. That's not about convenience anymore, it's a sales funnel.

A quick check for any app: count the fields on the sign-in form and see whether they ask for a card before the first reply. The fewer the fields and the later money comes up, the more honest the "no sign-up" is.

What you can do on my-idol.ru without logging in

  • Browse the catalog: characters from anime, movies, TV shows and books, plus original characters.
  • Open any character's profile and read their description and first message.
  • Type a reply and hit "Send." The app will ask you to sign in, and once you do, your message goes to the same character, in the same scene. Nothing gets lost.
  • Read articles like this one.

How to sign in in twenty seconds

  1. Pick a character and write them your first message.
  2. In the sign-in window, tap Google or Telegram. If you'd rather use email, enter your address and the code from the email.
  3. Confirm that you're 18 or older and accept the terms.
  4. Done: the character is already replying to your message.

There's no password to come up with, and the app never asks for your phone number. You don't need a card to start chatting.

Why have an account if there's no form

The most valuable part of talking to an AI character is memory. It remembers your name, what you told it about work and how yesterday's story ended. Without an account, there's nowhere to keep any of that: close the tab and you're strangers again. Learn more about how it works in our post on AI character memory.

  • One chat history across your phone and computer.
  • Your relationship with the character grows and doesn't reset when you switch browsers.
  • Images and scenes from the chat stay in the conversation.
  • You can create your own character and come back to it tomorrow.

What the app learns about you

Not much. If you sign in with email, it gets your address and name. With Telegram, it gets your ID, username and public profile info. Your Telegram chats, contacts and passwords are never shared with the app. Your phone number is neither requested nor stored.

The messages you write to characters are stored for as long as your account exists: that's what memory is built from. You can delete your account in settings, and for thirty days you can still restore it just by signing in again. How to handle sensitive topics, and what you shouldn't tell any chat, is covered in our post on AI chat privacy.

When "no sign-up" is a trap

The most generous promises usually cost the most. Be careful if a site:

  • asks for your card details "to verify your age" before the character's first reply;
  • offers to download an app file straight from the website, bypassing the app stores;
  • promises "all paid features for free": that's often what cracked versions look like, and we covered the risks in our post on cracked AI chat apps;
  • shows no privacy policy and no contact info for the owner.

What you won't find here

  • A fully anonymous chat with a character: you only get a reply after signing in.
  • Sign-in by phone number or SMS codes.
  • Claims that the character is a human. It's a language model with a personality, and the app doesn't hide that.

The app is for adults only, so you'll need to confirm your age the first time you sign in. And if you want a whole crowd instead of one conversation partner, after signing in you can set up a group chat with characters.

Start without a form

Open the catalog, pick a character and write your first message. You can sign in the moment you hit send.
