Ecchi or hentai: which is closer to chat

  • Hentai is explicit erotica in anime style. Everything is shown; nothing is left to guess.
  • Ecchi is flirting on the edge: a double meaning, a look that lasts too long, an awkward moment nobody's in a hurry to end.
  • Text chat is naturally closer to ecchi. What works best in writing is what goes unsaid: a pause before a reply, a slip of the tongue, a heroine who suddenly stops joking.

That's why the best waifu scenes are built on personality, not bluntness. The same line, "stay another half hour," sounds completely different from a feisty tsundere and a quiet dandere.
