Why dirty chat gets old fast
Most chats follow the same script: start careful, turn it up by the third message, hit the ceiling by the fifth. There's nowhere left to go, and the conversation turns into the same thing over and over in different words. Ten minutes in, both sides are bored, even if one of them is a neural network.
The problem isn't boldness. It's that boldness is the only variable. In real flirting, explicitness is almost never the point. The point is tension: something's about to happen, but hasn't yet. That's what you want to build.
Five levers besides explicitness
- PaceShort, quick lines bring excitement; long, slow ones bring a lingering pull. Switch the pace mid-scene and it comes alive without a single new word.
- DistanceStrangers on a train, coworkers after a meeting, old friends who haven't seen each other in years. The more distance between the characters at the start, the longer it's fun to close it.
