Why a voice changes the conversation
When you read a reply, you hear it in your own inner voice. That voice is flat and familiar, so even a sharp line comes through muffled. A real voice strips that layer away: you didn't pick the tone, the pace, or the intonation.
Take the line "so what am I supposed to do with you now." On screen it's neutral. Out loud it could be a tired sigh, a tease, or barely hidden tenderness. Those are three different conversations, and the voice tells you right away which one you're in.
The second thing is pace. You can skim a line in a second, but a voice message lasts as long as it lasts. The chat slows down and starts to feel more like talking than trading texts.
How voiceover works on our site
- Every character reply has a "Read aloud" button. Tap it and the line comes back as audio. Voicing one reply costs 5 energy ⚡.
- Each character has their own voice, matched to their age and personality. A grumpy captain and a bubbly cosplayer don't sound alike.
- The voice reads the exact reply the character wrote to you, not a canned line from a library. So it responds to your conversation, not just "the topic."
