Why your own boyfriend gets boring fast
The first thing people write in the description is "caring, funny, attentive." Sounds nice, but it gives the model nothing to hold on to. It dutifully plays caring and attentive, and by night three you're talking to a very pleasant customer support agent: he agrees with everything, understands everything and never surprises you.
The AI isn't the problem. Nice adjectives describe a rating, not a person. For your boyfriend to become someone, he needs some rough edges. There are three.
Detail one: a contradiction
Take two traits that pull in opposite directions. A surgeon who's afraid of blood outside the OR. A biker who knits. A cold boss who feeds the pigeons every morning and gets mad if anyone sees.
The test is simple: the second trait has to show up in the chat, not just on the profile. "A romantic at heart" doesn't work. "Rude, but always asks if you got home okay" does, because that's something he can say in a chat.
